Coltrane Series
The Coltrane Series first revealed itself in 2002. It's name was coined after a meeting with art Gallery owner Ron Gremillion of Houston Texas. Mr. Gremillion made references to jazz musician John Coltrane's music speaking about my work. After a 4-hour meeting I went home and began listening more intently to Coltrane's music. I worked and talked for hours about his musical contributions with my musician friend Walter Poussan Jr. who helped me to understand the concept of "sheets of sound," Coltrane, and the connection he saw with my work. I especially love Coltrane's later, more abstract and spiritually directed works. The Coltrane Series characteristics include flashes of light in the midst of darkness. Artist Francis Pavy and his wife Kathy and Mr. and Mrs. David Kyle of Houston are the owners of some of the Coltrane Series paintings. Another variation on the theme is the Les Sylphides series. It has the flashes of light but also has a balletic quality....lighter and more otherworldly.
